ACTIVITY N° 18 SCIENCE: ENERGY AND ELECTRICITY

Hello, kids!
We hope you are very well today!
Let’s write down the date:
Today is Tuesday, May 5th
It is cloudy
We are in autumn

SCIENCE

Today we are going to discuss: ENERGY AND ELECTRICITY.

A) THINK AND PREDICT:

·         Can energy be transferred from place to place by electric current?

Let’s find out the answer to the abovementioned question!

Watch the following video to learn more about ENERGY AND ELECTRICITY.

B) Decide if the following sentences are CORRECT or INCORRECT:

1. We live in an electric world. ___________

2. Protons have no charge. ___________

3. Electricity is the interaction of electrons and protons ___________

4. Maintaining power lines is not dangerous. ___________

C) Now, let’s revise some useful vocabulary related to this topic:

Take a look at pages 24-25 (Exploring Science)

D) BEFORE YOU READ

1.    What can you see in the picture?
2.    Where was the picture taken?
3.    Can you see palm trees?

E) AFTER YOU READ. Complete the following information using the words in the box:

              CURRENT-ENERGY- HEAT-POWER PLANT- SOUND

1.    Electrical energy is the ________ of moving charged particles.

2.    When electrical energy is transferred through wires it is called electric ________.

3.    Energy from a ___________ can be moved to all the buildings in a town.

4.    The amplifier in an electrical guitar makes the ________ of the guitar louder.

5.    Energy can be transformed into light, ______, sound and motion.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY:

Look at pages 26 and 27.

F) EXPLAIN:

-How does an electric circuit transfer energy?
-What happens to the flow of electric current when you turn a light switch off?

G) DRAW AN ELECTRIC CIRCUIT.

-LIGHT BULB: foco
-LAMP: lámpara
-ELECTRICAL OUTLET: enchufe
-PLUG INTO: enchufar
-SWITCH ON: prender
-SWITCH OFF: apagar
-GLOW: brillar/ resplandecer
-BATTERY: pila

That’s all for today!

Let’s keep on working tomorrow :)

See you next week!
