ACTIVITY N°7 SCIENCE: ENERGY AND SPEED

Good afternoon, everyone!
How are you?

Today we are going to work with our science book. We are going to talk about ENERGY and SPEED.

Let’s start by writing down the date on your ring binders.

Tuesday, April 7th
Today is cloudy and cold.
We are in autumn.

SCIENCE

Open your science books at pages 2 and 3.

  • Answer:

-What can you see in the picture?
-Can you see a big wheel?
-Do you like amusement parks?

  • Take a look at this picture:

WHEN A BALL FLIES THROUGH THE AIR, ENERGY IS MOVED FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER. ALL MOVING OBJECTS HAVE ENERGY. THE FASTER THEY ARE MOVING, THE MORE ENERGY THEY HAVE.

Now, think about this: Can we affect the ball’s energy?

Before we start let’s analyse some new words:

Let’s read pages 4 and 5 to find out the answer to the abovementioned question.

So, the answer is YES. People can affect the ball’s energy of motion by how hard they throw.

Let’s analyse SPEED! How is the speed of an object related to its energy?

Conduct the experiment on pages 6 and 7.

You will need the following materials:

-A BALL
-A STOPWATCH/CHRONOMETRE

  • CHECK THE 4 STEPS IN OUR SCIENCE BOOK.

CONCLUSIONS:

·    Fill in the blanks with the words given. There are 2 extra words you do not need to use. (Completar las conclusiones con las palabras dadas. Hay dos palabras de más).

SPEED-  TIME - WALL- ENERGY- PITCHER - MOVING-HITTER

The less _______ it takes the ball to roll to the ____, the greater its _______. The faster a given object is _______, the more __________ it possesses.

(ESPAÑOL: CUANDO LA VELOCIDAD AUMENTA, LA PELOTA TARDA MENOS TIEMPO EN LLEGAR A LA PARED)

For our last activity today, we are going to watch a video:

  •       LIST THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ENERGY MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO. For example:

1.    CHEMICAL ENERGY
2.    E ________ _________
3.    L _______ __________
4.    ___________ ________

·         MATCH THE DEFINITIONS:
1)    GRAVITY                   a)Push or pull on an object
2)    ENERGY                   b) The ability to do work or move things
3)    FORCE                      c) invisible force pulling things toward Earth

Let’s keep on learning tomorrow afternoon!
Stay at home :)

(ESTIMADAS FAMILIAS: HOY COMENZAMOS A TRABAJAR CON EL LIBRO DE CIENCIAS. YA SEA QUE ENVÍEN LA TAREA EN UN DOCUMENTO WORD O CON FOTOS DE LA CARPETA, POR FAVOR RECORDAR ESPECIFICAR EL NÚMERO DE LA ACTIVIDAD, APELLIDO Y NOMBRE DEL ALUMNO EN EL ASUNTO DEL MAIL. ¡MUCHÍSIMAS GRACIAS!)
