ACTIVITY N° 40: THE ELEPHANT & ITS CHARACTERISTICS

Today we are going to learn about ELEPHANTS.


·         Do you think elephants are amazing?
LET’S ANALYSE SOME VOCABULARY!

ACTIVITY 1: Match the abovementioned vocabulary with the definitions.

1. The outer covering of a tree. ____________
2. A group of animals of one kind that live and feed together. ____________
3. Something that grows on a plant, tree, or bush. It can be eaten as a food and contains seeds. ____________
4. A common plant with thin leaves that covers the ground and gardens and is often eaten by animals. ____________
5. A small document that you need in order to leave your country and enter other countries. ____________
6. Warmth or the quality of being hot. ____________

ACTIVITY 2: Read the following information about the elephant and choose the correct option.

Elephants is/are the world's largest/larger living animals and one of the most recognizable plants/animals in the world! Small and blue/Big and grey, with big ears and long trunks/eyes, elephants are distinctive-looking creatures.  Unfortunately, hunting and conflict with humans has endangered these intelligent mammals.
ACTIVITY 3: Watch the following video about the African elephant.



Answer the questions:
1. Have African elephants larger ears than Asian elephants?
2. Where can African elephants be found?
3. Why are elephant’s trunks important?
4. Is the African elephant the largest living animal on land?

ACTIVITY 4: Now, complete some funny facts about African elephants:

Traducción de las actividades

Estimadas familias:

En el día de hoy aprenderemos sobre los elefantes y sus características.

Los alumnos repasarán el vocabulario relacionado con este tema a partir de un cuadro. Deberán utilizar dicho vocabulario para unir las palabras con las definiciones correspondientes.

El vocabulario que se menciona es el siguiente:

PASSPORT: pasaporte
HEAT: calor
GRASS: pasto
BARK: corteza del árbol
FRUIT: fruta
HERD: manada

Luego, deberán leer un pequeño fragmento con información sobre los elefantes y elegir la opción correcta.

En la siguiente actividad, deberán mirar un video muy breve y responder algunas preguntas con la información que contiene el material audiovisual.

Por último, deberán prestar atención al final del video en el que se presentan algunos datos curiosos sobre el elefante africano.

Se ha incluido como actividad opcional un video en el que los alumnos continuarán aprendiendo sobre los elefantes; en este caso, la diferencia entre el elefante africano y el elefante asiático. Luego de verlo, podrán dibujar ambas especies.

Esta tarde estaremos trabajando con las páginas 78 y 79 del libro Exploring Science.
